# Quick Research

How to start a saved survey on a saved population from a single screen, without the design steps, plus the defaults applied, how credits are calculated and where to find the results.

**Quick Research** runs one of your saved surveys on one of your saved populations from a single screen. There are no steps for choosing a vertical and method, creating a population or designing a survey: you fill in three fields, check the estimated credits and click **Start**. For example, you can use it to repeat a price survey you ran on a population aged 25–34, this time on one aged 35–44.

## How it differs from New Research

**New Research** sets up a study from scratch. **Quick Research** combines two ready-made parts: a population and a survey. A population is a saved group of synthetic consumers (personas); a survey is a saved question or price design.

| Topic | New Research | Quick Research |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Steps | Vertical, method, population, survey design, preview | One screen: **Research Type**, **Population**, **Survey Selection** |
| Population | Created new or chosen from existing ones | Saved populations only |
| Survey | Designed, or started from a saved survey and edited | The saved survey runs as it is |
| Method | Chosen with a card | Determined by the survey's type |
| Starting | **Research Preview** › **Start** | **Experiment Summary** › **Start** |
| Scope | All methods | Multiple-choice and price surveys |

For details, see [Starting a new study](/en/docs/research/new-study).

## When to use it

- To re-run the same survey on another population and compare the two populations' responses.
- To run another survey on the same population. Because the personas stay the same, you can compare the two studies directly.

Use **New Research** if you need to create a new population or change the survey, or if you want to run a Comparison, Real-Time Focus Group or Ad Test. These three methods have no saved surveys, so you cannot run them in **Quick Research**.

## Before you start

- **You need at least one population.** Populations are created in the **New Research** flow; see [Creating a population](/en/docs/populations/creating-a-population).
- **You need at least one saved survey.** Saved surveys are listed on the **LIBRARY** › **Surveys** page; see [Survey library and question design](/en/docs/research/survey-library).
- **Only records you can see are listed.** Members see their own populations and surveys; an organisation admin sees every record in the organisation. If a teammate's survey is missing from the list, contact your admin.
- **You need enough credits.** If the estimated credits exceed your balance, the **Start** button is disabled.

## Starting the study

1. In the sidebar, click **Quick Research** in the **WORKFLOW** group. The selection card opens, with an empty area titled **Select Population** below it.
2. Choose the vertical from the **Research Type** list. The default is **General Research**; the list also includes other active verticals such as **Fashion**.
3. Choose a population in the **Population** field. Each row shows the population's name and number of personas, with its creation date and record ID underneath.
4. In the **Survey Selection** field, choose the survey to run. The list shows multiple-choice and price surveys together, with the most recently updated survey at the top. Each row shows the survey type (e.g. **Multiple Choice**, **WTP**) and the number of questions, features or prices.
5. Check the cards that open: **Experiment Summary**, the population card (**Population**, **Person Count**, **Research Type**) and **Survey preview**. For multiple-choice surveys, this last card shows the questions and options; for price surveys, it shows the **Product Name**, **Features**, competitors and **Price Ladder**.
6. If you want to look at the population's demographic distribution, click **Population Details**. The **Hızlı Araştırma'ya Dön** (Back to Quick Research) link on the detail page takes you back with your selections kept.
7. Read the **Credit Usage** value on the **Experiment Summary** card and click **Start**. While the request is being sent, the button reads **Starting...**.
8. The progress screen (**Experiment Processing**) opens. When the study finishes, the message **Your analysis is ready** appears and the report opens automatically about 3 seconds later.

> [!IMPORTANT]
> Despite its name, the **Research Type** field chooses the vertical, not the method. Changing this field clears the population and survey you selected, so you have to choose both again.

> [!WARNING]
> Clicking **Start** does not open a separate preview page; the study starts straight away. Check the estimated credits on the **Experiment Summary** card before you click.

## Settings and limits

### Survey types and methods

You do not choose a method separately; the survey's type determines which method the study runs.

| Type shown in the list | Method run |
| --- | --- |
| **Multiple Choice** | Multiple-Choice Survey |
| **WTP** | Price Analysis (WTP): measures willingness to pay |
| **Feature Value Analysis** | Feature Price Impact |
| **Feature (MaxDiff)** | Priority Ranking (MaxDiff, best–worst scaling) |
| **Choice Based Conjoint (CBC)**, **Dynamic Conjoint** | Competitive Analysis (Conjoint) |

### Surveys you can run in each vertical

| Research Type | Surveys you can run | Populations listed |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **General Research** | All saved survey types | General Research populations with at least one persona |
| **Fashion** | **Multiple Choice**, **WTP**, **Feature Value Analysis**, **Feature (MaxDiff)**, **Choice Based Conjoint (CBC)** and **Dynamic Conjoint** surveys | Fashion populations that have finished building and are ready |
| **Ad Testing** | None; ad tests are started from **New Research** › **Ad Testing** | Ad Testing populations that have finished building and are ready |

Populations are not shared between verticals: with **Fashion** selected, only Fashion populations are listed.

### When the Start button is disabled

| Situation | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| No population or survey is selected | Select both. |
| The estimated credits exceed your balance | Hover over the red icon next to **Credit Usage** and click **Buy Credits**. |
| In Fashion, the preview of a Competitive Analysis survey has not loaded yet | Wait for the preview to load; the credit estimate depends on the price ladder. |
| The survey does not run in the selected vertical | Choose another survey or switch to **General Research**. |
| The population is not ready for this survey type | Choose another population or survey. |

In the last two cases, one of these red messages appears below the **Experiment Summary** card:

- "This survey type cannot run in vertical research. Pick General Research, or choose another survey."
- "The Ad Testing vertical does not support this survey type. Choose another survey."
- "The selected population is not ready for this survey type. Choose another population or survey."

### Defaults applied

- **Study name** is the survey's title; this is the name reports show.
- **Personas** are the same as those in the population; no new personas are generated. The number of personas is the population's **Person Count** and cannot be changed.
- **Target audience description** carries over from the population to the new study in General Research.
- **Product name and brand** come from the survey for price surveys in General Research. If the survey has no brand, the population's brand is used.
- **The survey** is linked to the study, not copied. Both the survey and the population stay unchanged.
- **Priority Ranking in Fashion** shows 4 features in each question set, and every feature appears in at least 3 question sets.
- **Competitive Analysis in Fashion** extends the price ladder upwards by about two-thirds of its width (the difference between the highest and lowest price). If the highest competitor price is higher still, the ladder extends up to that price.

## How credits are calculated

**Credit Usage** shows two numbers: first your balance, then this study's estimated cost. For example, "1.250/400" means your balance is 1,250 credits and the study will use about 400 credits. Credits are deducted from the balance shown in the sidebar as **Remaining credits:**.

The estimate uses these formulas:

| Survey type | General Research | Fashion |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Multiple Choice** | personas × questions | 5 credits per persona (regardless of the number of questions) |
| **WTP** | personas × price points | personas × price points |
| **Feature Value Analysis** | personas × (price points + (price points + 5) × features) | same |
| **Feature (MaxDiff)** | personas × ⌈features × 3 ÷ 4⌉ | same |
| **Choice Based Conjoint (CBC)**, **Dynamic Conjoint** | personas × price points | personas × prices on the extended ladder |

Examples:

- Multiple-choice survey with 8 questions, 200 personas: 200 × 8 = 1,600 credits in General Research, 200 × 5 = 1,000 credits in Fashion.
- Feature Value Analysis, 5 price points, 3 features, 100 personas: 5 + (5 + 5) × 3 = 35; 100 × 35 = 3,500 credits.
- **Feature (MaxDiff)**, 10 features, 100 personas: 10 × 3 ÷ 4 = 7.5, rounded up to 8; 100 × 8 = 800 credits.
- Competitive Analysis survey in Fashion, 7 price points from ₺100 to ₺400 in ₺50 steps, 100 personas: the ladder extends to ₺600 and has 11 prices; 100 × 11 = 1,100 credits.

Credits are deducted from your balance after the study's responses have been generated; a study that fails without generating responses costs no credits. Your balance is checked again when the study starts; if it is insufficient at that point, the study fails. The balance is checked once more when credits are deducted; [Credits](/en/docs/account/credits) explains what happens if other studies have spent your balance in the meantime.

The credits deducted can differ from the estimate in three cases. For **WTP**, **Feature Value Analysis**, **Feature (MaxDiff)** and **Choice Based Conjoint (CBC)** surveys in General Research, credits are based on the number of responses the study produces (1 credit per response) and can differ slightly from the estimate. For **Dynamic Conjoint** surveys in General Research, the estimate is personas × price points and your balance must cover that amount, but the credits deducted are 1 credit per persona. For **Dynamic Conjoint** surveys in Fashion, the credits deducted are 2 credits per persona higher than the estimate. For details, see [Credits](/en/docs/account/credits).

## Finding the results

Every start from **Quick Research** creates a new, separate study. On the progress screen, the status changes from **PREPARING** to **RUNNING** and then **SAVING**. The study keeps running in the background even if you leave this screen.

When the study completes, the report opens automatically; the screen also has **Go to Reports** and **New Study** buttons. You can reach the report later from two places:

- The **ANALYSIS** › **Reports** page.
- The **Linked experiments** list, which opens when you click the **Linked experiments** card on the population's detail page.

The report's sections and Excel file are the same as for a study started from **New Research** with the same method. See [Reading a report](/en/docs/results/reading-a-report) and [Exporting and downloading](/en/docs/results/exporting).

If the study fails, the screen shows **Experiment Failed**. Common causes are an insufficient balance when the study starts, a population that is not ready, or a selected survey with an empty price ladder or feature list. Once you have fixed the problem, start the study again from **Quick Research**.

A study started in General Research can also fail while the report is being prepared, after the responses have been saved; in that case the credits have already been deducted and are not refunded automatically. If you start again from **Quick Research**, a new study is created and credits are deducted again. For **WTP** and **Feature Value Analysis** surveys, click **Back to Preview** instead and restart the study on the page that opens: only the report is rebuilt from the saved responses, and no credits are deducted a second time. For other surveys, send a request in the **Billing** category from the **Support** page before you restart.

## Tips and common mistakes

- **Check the preview.** You can also select a survey with an empty price ladder or feature list; the estimate may show 0 credits, but the study will fail. If the **Survey preview** card says "No price data" or "No features defined", choose another survey.
- **Your selections are restored only once.** Your selections come back when you return from the **Population Detail** page with the **Hızlı Araştırma'ya Dön** link. If you go back through the sidebar or reload the page, the form opens empty.
- **Tell reports apart.** If you run the same survey on several populations, the reports have the same name. Tell them apart by their dates or through the population's **Linked experiments** list.
- **Use New Research to change the survey.** In the design step of **New Research**, start from a saved survey: **Import from Saved Survey** for multiple-choice surveys, **Select from Saved Surveys** for price surveys.
- **You can have Argus prepare the study.** Argus, SCL's AI research assistant, can prepare a study on this screen, but it asks for your approval before starting it. See [Approvals and Autopilot](/en/docs/argus/approvals-and-autopilot).

> [!TIP]
> If you have several surveys with the same name, type the record ID shown under each row (e.g. **#pricing-12**) into the search box. Search also works on name, product, brand, description and date, and ignores Turkish character differences such as ı/i and ş/s.
