Exporting and downloading
You can download SCL results as several kinds of file: the PDF and Excel files of every study report, the transcript of a focus group session, the list of synthetic consumers (personas) in a population, CSV files of report tables, individual charts, and Argus’s strategy report and presentations. This page brings together the button, format and contents of each file.
Downloading results as PDF, Excel and CSV
Shows how to download a report's PDF and Excel files, browse the Excel sheets, save a single table and chart, and download the focus group transcript, the population list and the Argus strategy report.
Files are generated from saved results. Downloading does not put any questions to the personas again and uses no credits (Credits).

Downloading study reports
The report page of every method has Download PDF and Download Excel buttons at the top. The buttons appear once the report has analysis results. To open a report, click the study’s card on the Reports page (Reports).
PDF report
The PDF report is a ready-to-share document made up of a cover, numbered sections and a conclusion page.
- Open the report.
- Click Download PDF at the top.
- If the PDF segment selection dialog opens, tick the segment dimensions to include in the PDF.
- If the dialog opened, click Generate PDF.
- Stay on the page while the button shows Generating PDF…. The file downloads when it is ready.
The PDF segment selection dialog opens for Price Analysis (WTP), Feature Price Impact, Priority Ranking (MaxDiff), Competitive Analysis (Conjoint) and Multiple-Choice Survey reports. Each dimension shows how many categories it has. The dimensions are listed in this order: socio-economic status (SES), income group, education, age, gender, market segment and custom feature. For what each dimension means, see Segmentation.
In Price Analysis and Competitive Analysis reports, the first three eligible dimensions in this order come pre-selected; in other reports, none are selected. Use Select all and Clear to change the selection in one go. The PDF includes segment pages only for the dimensions you tick.
The list shows only dimensions with at least one group of 5 or more personas. Name, city and SES score are not offered as segment dimensions. If no dimension is eligible, the dialog either doesn’t open at all or shows “No eligible segment dimensions found. The PDF will continue without segment pages.”; the PDF is then prepared without segment pages. For Comparison, focus group and Ad Test reports, this dialog doesn’t open and the PDF is prepared directly.
Preparing the PDF can take a few minutes. In most PDFs, a language model writes the commentary and summary paragraphs from the numbers in the report; check this text against the numbers before you share it (Accuracy and limitations).
Excel file
The Excel file contains the report’s data, including the responses of each persona.
- Open the report.
- Click Download Excel at the top.
- Wait while the button shows Downloading Excel…. The file downloads as .xlsx when it is ready.
In the Ad Test report, the button label doesn’t change; instead, the button can’t be clicked while the file is being prepared.

| Ad Test | Key metrics, what was liked and what was criticised, what works and what is missing, audience breakdown | One sheet: Ad Test Responses |
The sheet tab names in Excel are in English in every language; the headings and tables inside the sheets are mostly in the interface language. The most common sheets contain the following:
- Meta: The study’s ID and name, the product, the export date, and the number of personas and responses. In a Multiple-Choice Survey, the questions’ options and conditions are listed here too.
- Executive Summary: The key metrics; most files also include an Excel chart.
- Segment Impact: The results broken down by segment.
- Population: Demographics for each persona (age group, gender, city, education, income group, SES, market segment, marital status, work status, household size) and the population’s custom feature, if it has one.
- Raw: All of each persona’s responses on a single row; in a focus group, each response is a separate row. In Price Analysis, it also includes each persona’s willingness to pay (WTP) and purchase likelihood at each price; in Priority Ranking, the number of question sets completed.
On the Raw sheet of a Multiple-Choice Survey, multi-select answers are separated by semicolons. A “—” means that persona was not asked the question because of a condition; an empty cell means the response is missing.
The Executive Summary sheet of the Comparison file also includes the interpretation of the outcome and the recommended next step, which are not on the report page. In the Ad Test file, each row is a persona; the columns cover the archetype, age group, gender, income group, scores, the evaluation before and after the ad, the brand recalled, the peak and low scenes, and the main message. Some of this file’s column headings are in English and some are in Turkish.
To read the report sections and metrics, see Reading a report and the page for the relevant method.
Focus group transcript
The full transcript of a focus group session downloads with the Excel file on the Odak Grubu Analizi page. There is no separate button for the transcript.
- Click Analytics at the bottom of the session screen, or open the session’s card in Reports.
- On the Odak Grubu Analizi page, click Download Excel.
Download Excel appears once at least one question has been asked in the session; you don’t need to generate an analysis. The transcript is on the Raw sheet. Each response is a row; the columns cover the persona’s demographics, group, question number, question, response, whether the response came from a reaction round, and a timestamp.
The analysis sheets in the file come from the most recently generated analysis. If there is no analysis, or if you asked new questions after it was generated, the Executive Summary sheet shows the warning “Analytics may be stale or incomplete for the current transcript.” For an up-to-date file, click Generate Analysis or Recalculate first.
Download PDF appears only after an analysis has been generated. To generate an analysis, click Generate Analysis; the session needs at least 5 responses for this. Details are on the Real-Time Focus Group page.
Population list
- Open a population on the Populations page.
- Click Download Excel to the right of the title.
While the file is being prepared, the button shows Preparing Excel…, then briefly Download ready when the download starts. The file is a demographic list with one row per persona; it contains no results. The list of columns is on the Population library page.
If you need the responses of each persona, use the study report’s Excel file. The Population sheet in that file also includes the population’s custom feature, which the population list does not.
A single table or chart
Some tables on report pages have a Download CSV button above them: for example, the table on the Data Table tab of a Multiple-Choice Survey, the feature table in Priority Ranking, the optimal price tables by segment, and the table below the crosstab. The button downloads the table as you see it on screen, that is, with the rows you have filtered in the Filter… box, in the order you have sorted them. The file downloads immediately.
To add a chart to a presentation, click the camera icon in the chart’s toolbar. The chart is saved as a PNG image named “chart.png”.
Argus strategy report and presentations
You can download the strategy report that Argus writes for a research programme as PDF, PPTX or DOCX. An interim report written while fieldwork is still running downloads the same way.
- Find the Download: row on the report card in the conversation (Research Programme Report). If you click Open report on the card, the report opens in a new tab; the same row is also in that page’s header.
- Click one of the formats: PDF, PPTX or DOCX. A spinner appears next to the format; the file downloads when it is ready.
You can also ask Argus for a presentation. A presentation is built only from Multiple-Choice Survey, Price Analysis, Feature Price Impact, Priority Ranking and Competitive Analysis studies that Argus has read in the same conversation. The default format is PPTX; you can also get PDF or DOCX if you prefer. The presentation takes a few minutes to prepare, and the download link arrives in the conversation. For details, see Strategy reports and presentations.
File name and language
A downloaded file’s name is the study name followed by an English suffix that shows the method: the Excel file of a Price Analysis study named “Kışlık Mont” (winter coat) downloads as “Kislik_Mont_WTP.xlsx”. Turkish letters are converted to their equivalents in the English alphabet, characters other than letters and digits become underscores, and the name is cut off at 60 characters. The suffixes for the other methods are MCQ, WTP_V2, MaxDiff, Conjoint_S3, Dynamic_Conjoint, Comparison, Focus_Group and Ad_Test; the population list downloads with the Population suffix.
If you download the same study’s file twice, both files have the same name; your browser adds “(1)” to the name of the second one.
Report PDFs and Excel files are prepared in the interface language that is active when you click the button. The column headings of the Ad Test Excel file, however, stay the same whatever the language. If you need the file in another language, switch the interface language with Language in the user menu at the top right and download the file again.
Troubleshooting
Retrying a failed download is safe: each click regenerates the file from the saved results and uses no credits.
| Symptom | What to do |
|---|---|
| The button shows Generating PDF… or Downloading Excel… for a long time | Preparing a PDF can take a few minutes; don’t close the tab. The page waits up to 10 minutes, then shows the message “Report generation timed out.” In that case, click the button again. |
| “Failed to create PDF file”, “Report generation failed.” or “Excel export failed” | Click the button again. If the error persists, see Support and troubleshooting. |
| “The export request failed.”, “Could not read the report status.” or “The export finished without a download link.” | Refresh the page and click the button again. |
| The red message contains an explanation from the server (e.g. “No personas found for this research.”) | The explanation gives the cause of the error; usually the study has no personas or no analysis results. Check that the report is complete and that the results appear on the page. |
| A browser alert dialog opened on the Ad Test report | In this report, PDF errors are shown in a separate dialog. Close the dialog and click Download PDF again. |
| Download PDF or Download Excel is not visible | The report has no analysis results yet (for example, the page shows “Analysis is being processed. This may take a few minutes…”); the buttons appear when the analysis finishes. In a focus group, Download Excel needs at least one question, and Download PDF needs a generated analysis. For Fashion and Ad Testing populations, Download Excel appears once generation is complete. |
| A segment page you expected is missing from the PDF | The PDF includes only the dimensions you ticked in the PDF segment selection dialog. Dimensions where no group has at least 5 personas are not in the list. |
| The file is in the wrong language | Change the interface language with Language in the user menu and download the file again. |
| The tab was closed or the page was refreshed, and the file didn’t download | Reopen the report and click the button again. |
| “Export failed — try again.” in Argus | Click the same format again. The Download: row waits up to 8 minutes per file, both on the report card and on the report page. |
